How effective is it to learn guitar from iPhone apps?

21st April 2010

How effective is it to learn guitar from iPhone apps as opposed to the real guitar. I wanna do this because I just wanna learn the basics of guitar first and I dont want to waste money buying the real guitar. I just want to learn basics and if my will and determination will uphold me. If I can learn basics Ill buy the real thing.

A real guitar is very different from any sort of virtual simulation. You might learn some theory, but you won’t learn much (if anything at all) about actually playing.

You can buy a guitar without breaking the bank. Go on craigslists, you’ll find plenty of people selling decent Gios or Squiers for around $100.

Honestly playing around with an iphone app will not teach you a single thing about playing guitar. Put down the game and pick up something a little more productive.
