how can i learn guitar or bass if i really know nothing about music?

30th December 2009

I’ve hoping to be able to play an musical instrument for a very long time but for some reason that I cant do it as i like. well, now, i can have the chance to play some. but i found i have no idea about music because i never learn any about it…so where can i start from? and which one of bass and guitar is easier for me to start with? thank you so much!

If you learn guitar first, then bass is incredibly easy to learn afterwards.

If you want to start out with playing cover chords of popular songs, try http://www.youtube.com/user/yourguitarsage

But just learn some basic chord shapes, and how they are supposed to fit together, and practice a lot!

(and make sure you have a guitar :] )

paul mccartney cant read music but its not done him any harm =)

practice practice practice is the way to get good on guitar. regular practice of an hour or two a day for 2 years should get you good on guitar

learning on acoustic is better than electric cos it makes your fingers stronger

I taught myself guitar about 15 years ago and now I can play guitar, bass, mandolin… pretty much anything with strings.

If you learn guitar, it’ll take longer. You’ll start having to use your other hand to move your fingers into chord shapes, if you stick with it you’ll be playing basic progressions after about two weeks. I played my first gig after three months.

Bass is a lot easier but less full-filling, I taught a friend to play bass and he was playing most songs I showed him after a week and playing complicated ones after a month but bass is better played with other musicians.

    hope this helps

most classical guitar books you can buy teach you to read music
chords are easiest- when you play them play along with the song to practice keeping in time

    there’s always tabs as well
