What exactly is electric guitar setup?

Is it necessary to make guitar playing easier or it just improves the sound?

A guitar set up will give you optimum playability. Height of action (distance from strings to fingerboard) Bridge in correct place. Nut correctly set. Pickups adjusted for best tone . Correct amount of bow in the neck to eliminate any fret buzz or string rattle. Frets at correct height. and so on.

    It does both, proper intonation will improve your sound. So will adjusting the height of the pickups. The height of the strings will be corrected to prevent buzz and at the same time make it easier to play. Overall a setup just makes your instrument feel and out nicer.
