Learn Guitar Tabs

I started play guitar a week ago, And i know the D A G and E guitar chords do you know any songs that use them chords and are pretty easy?

And i also want to know of any easy guitar tabs, Because i want to learn guitar chord songs and guitar tabs.

Plus have you got any tips for the D chord i stuff that one up abit sometimes thanks.

I want to play in a band when i’m older.

I’ve just started to learn guitar and I can play some chords and songs but how do you read a tab? I do not understand any of the exes and dots and 8s and 2s and it just does not make any sense to me. Help? :L

It actually makes more sense than you think.. .It is tough to read it at first. Hell, Ive been playing for 20+ years, and solos still confuse me…

If a chord reads (up to down) XX0232 that is a D chord. You dont play the first 2 strings, open 3rd string, second fret on the 4th, 3rd on the 5th, and 2nd on the bottom.

The number indicates what fret you need to be on.

The X means not to play that string

Read the notation on the tab.

Best thing to do is learn chords, and play songs out of a fake book, which will tell you which chord you need to be in. You can figure out the other stuff by ear, or later with tab.

I have been really blessed with a good ear, so most of what I play is from ear, but I now know most of the chords, and can improvise when need be. There are some songs Ive been playing wrong for years, but what I play is close, so its not too bad…

I don’t know the names of notes yet so don’t give me those. You can put TAB on here or you can give me a link to some TAB for an arpeggio. Thank you.

I have been trying to learn guitar with a program on my computer but it is not working i have gotten stuck.

The most complete way to learn guitar is go learn the notes as you play them on the strings. You can learn tab and chords and that sounds nice for accompanimentt but learning the notes on each string will enable to play melodies of songs. So it is up to you, if you are interested in playing tunes or just to accompany other people singing. If you want to play for a band, most of the music would be played in accompaniment with some riffs. The thing that matters most for playing in a group is being in the same key. Chord progressions will teach you keys. There are charts for that too. I feel that this would have made the biggest difference if I knew keys and how to progress with chords, then you can change keys and play around any way you want.

Hello everyone. I used to play trumpet years ago, and since then I haven’t played a guitar. Since I used to play an instrument I sort of still know how to read sheet music. I have a guitar, but don’t really know what to do. What would be the best way for me to learn? Tabs or sheet music and how? Should I buy a book? or watch videos online?

First get some lessons and learn the basics you can learn from books if you wish but it is always better if someone can show you because they can pick up on things you might miss. Then once you can read music download or buy your sheets of music and learn how to play the song from youtube (there are guitar players that will show you how to play all sorts of songs) and follow the sheets of music when learning the song so you know what the guitar player is talking about. You can have one page up of the youtube video and one of the music sheet you want to learn. And they’ll teach you how to play the song but you must learn the chords and notes first that’s why I say you should learn the basics like how to read music first. There are also some magazines that can teach you how to play with videos so check there also.

The song im really wanting to learn is "trend" by frickin a’. It doesnt sound too hard but i still cant figure it out on my own and ive looked everywhere on the internet and cant find a guitar tab. Does anyone know what i should do or someone i can contact that might try to figure it out and post a guitar tab for me?

try to cancel out everything in the song but the guitar playing, in your mind.
there are some programs that cancel out vocals in music files, try google

Go fore music theory (notes)

Although tab is definitely useful for quickly grasping any popular song quickly. But as you will want to to be become a more competent musician you will come across situation whereby you need to understand music theory and notes. For example playing guitar for a singer who might require you to change the key. It very difficult to visualize key changes on tab.

Tab is also very easy to grasp, if you can grasp notes you can find it much easier to grasp tab. So definitely go for notes. as you can learn to transcribe to any instrument, which is very useful for any guitarist/musician.

Also more important than those two I feel. Is learning by ear. Train your ear rigorously because it will improve your playing of any instrument, understanding of notes harmony which are so very crucial for any competent musician. Any guitar tutor(I 200% recommend) will allude to these facts however I feel you might self taught. If you don’t want a DVD program (the best being Learn and Master Guitar) the best is to:

train your ear: google any ear training programs, a lot are free. and always try figure out any song you like by playing small parts of it, and trying to play it on guitar, obviously when you begin its extremely painful and requires diligence as you will be repeating parts quite a lot to figure them out. In good time though, its extremely rewarding as you can accompany and musicians or bands easily and naturally. Oh yeah.

Join a band as soon you can! or a music group or whatever. Nothing beats it!!

Tablature is an easier, but inferior method of notation. Sure, it shows you where to put your fingers, but it doesn’t tell you what notes those are, or how they are related. Basically, it doesn’t facilitate an understanding of music.

Freight train is a great song to getting started with playing fingerstyle guitar. This lesson features 4 versions of this song and with each version there will be some things added.
This is the fourth and last version (intermediate). It continues with adding extra bassnotes to the song. It’s split up in 9 parts and I’ve tried to explain it step by step and in a slowed down way.
