I need a good reasonable answer. I heard many sides to this question like making up your own riffs, verses, solos, intros are the only way to learn guitar. Is that true, or are learning tabs the way to go?
Of course it is! Using other musician’s songs is great to practice different techniques and everything. If you can master it, you will also be able to impress other people who like the song.
Making up your own material is also a great way to practice. The thing about that is, though, you will have a hard time making up a tune that will be a good challenge for practice, if you don’t even know how to use any of the techniques required.
I suggest starting out with tutorials on how to do different things with your guitar and then use tabs and stuff to learn other people’s music, so that you become familiar with how to apply the techniques.
Try song writing when you are a bit more advanced.

Are there any good songs that you can learn by using guitar tabs?
I’m a beginner and I’m not good at all with chords.
I really want to learn how to play a song on the guitar though, so I use tabs.
Know any good songs?
One for an acoustic guitar.
And for a teenage girl xD
‘Cause i want to learn how to sing it too.
Thanks in advance (:
Try the beatles

I’ve just started to learn guitar and am trying to learn TAB. I’ve seen some ones for popular songs and I can figure out some of it but then there’s just a whole bunch of numbers and symbols overlapping and I get sooo confused :S
So is there a site with very simple guitar tabs and songs that are easy to read and follow? Thanks.

Me and my friend want to learn a guitar duet for a talent show coming up in february. Problem is, we don’t know a good song to learn that has tabs so we can learn it and perfect it.
Yeah, no singing.
So you mean a guitar song with no singing? or with singing?
if no singing… and if you’re an expert guitarist…
Look up Tommy Emmanuel… (and his brother Phil Emmanuel) and you will be totally blown away!!!
If you’re just an average player,
Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton is OK.. (convert lyrics to melody)

Learn to recognize numbers 0-24 and be able to count the number of frets on the guitar and associate the number on the page to the number of the fret.

Is it possible to read regular, right-handed guitar tabs when playing left-handed guitar?
There’s no such thing as "right-handed tabs"
Unless you’re playing left-handed, but with the guitar strung right-handed (like Albert King or Dick Dale), the strings are still arranged exactly the same. The bottom string on the tab is still the closest string to your face.
Even if you’ve got it strung backwards, it doesn’t make that much of a difference when reading a tab. It makes a HUGE difference when playing stuff, but it’s not that confusing to just switch it around in your head.

and why do some people say they learned to play by mimicking other people like their favorite musicians? (fyi im learning to play classically right in a guitar class at my jc) I wonder about this because I sing and play a little piano and am more interested in being a musician than a classical player so am I better off with tabs or should I learn to play notes?
thank you!
A musician and classical player are the same thing, for one. I would say since you already have a headstart in classical training, forget about tabs completely. Standard notation is better in the long run, and if you want to be a musician, you pretty much must know it.

is there a web site where i can learn tabs and chords ? the easy way im new to the guitr
try http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/.
That is a site i often use for tabs. They have a very good selection
Also have a look at the program Guitar Pro. I think there is a free trial you can have.
This program will open Guitar Pro Tabs, which you can download on that website i just gave you, and will then display them and play them, allowing you to cleary see what you should play and also hear how it should sound.
If you struggle to read and play tabs, there is no way to learn this. After all, it is just a graphical representation of a guitar and where to put your fingers. Guitar Pro makes this easier to see.
And for chords, i would reccomend buying a chord book. These have most if not every chord written in them and a picture of where your fingers should be. Very handy.
Hope this helps!
