Help me learn guitar tabs?

15th November

I’ve been able to read sheet music for a long time and I want to learn guitar. I currently have no guitar but I have a decent keyboard. Is there somewhere that can teach me how to read tabs without actually having a guitar and help me learn to convert sheet music to tabs? Thanks!

If you already read sheet music forget about tabs. Get a guitar and learn to play from sheet music.

Is it bad to not use tabs to learn guitar songs?

19th August

Sometimes I don’t use them because I can just figure out by listening to the song. Is this bad, should I stop and just use tabs to learn songs on guitar

It’s ok to do for simple songs but it would be better to use tabs because when you play more difficult pieces it will take forever to learn them if you are not fluent in tablature. If you feel uncomfortable with tabs then the best way to overcome that is practice.

how long does it take you to learn a guitar tab?

14th June

it takes me about an hour before I can play the whole song properly and so that it sounds ok and Ive always wondered how long it takes other people to learn tabs my friends take about 1 hour also what about you ?

It depends how good you are and how well you know your guitar. You find that if your theoretical knowledge is very good, you will know where everything fits in place in the song.
It also depends on how difficult the song is, e.g. comparing ‘Sweet Child O Mine’ to ‘Technical Difficulties’, TD will take longer than SCOM.

Is it better to learn bass tabs from Ultimate guitar or songsterr?

9th June

I was just wondering. But the problem with ultimate guitar is that I don’t know how to play along with it. Maybe its just my lack of skills

it’s better to learn by ear
as for tabs, it literally doesn’t matter at all where you get them from. I guess 911tabs is the best but I highly suggest learning the songs yourself

Would it be good for me to learn how to read guitar tabs, and notes now?

3rd June

In a few years, I can take classes in school on how to play guitar in guitar 1,2,3, and 4 classes.
Would it be better for me to learn how to read the music now, two years before?

Hello there,

If you want to go ahead and learn that, fine. But there is no need to do such. Tabs are quick and easy to learn. You can learn to read them in a few minutes. It takes longer to learn to read musical notation, but it is not all that difficult. I suppose you are anxious to get started. But 2 years is a long time. If you learn it now and don’t use it for 2 years, you will have to relearn it later. So if you want to learn it now, go ahead. But in 2 years you will probably have to relearn it anyway.

Is it possible to learn guitar with only tabs and chords?

8th March

I’m a beginning guitar player and I suck at music theory. I can’t read music, knowing only the very bare basics of it. However, I find Tablature and chord diagrams much easier to grasp. Will I get AT LEAST decently far with just tabs and chords?

Definitely. The style of sheet music you learn from in terms of sheet or tablature is irrelevant so long as you keep practicing and learning. If it’s easier for you then go for it. :)

As a beginner, start by learning your basic chords and work your way up. From there you can move into some basic chord progressions and finally into learning some songs. Keep at it and you’ll be playing the music you want in no time!

Are learning tabs for other songs a good way to practice guitar?

13th February

I need a good reasonable answer. I heard many sides to this question like making up your own riffs, verses, solos, intros are the only way to learn guitar. Is that true, or are learning tabs the way to go?

Of course it is! Using other musician’s songs is great to practice different techniques and everything. If you can master it, you will also be able to impress other people who like the song.
Making up your own material is also a great way to practice. The thing about that is, though, you will have a hard time making up a tune that will be a good challenge for practice, if you don’t even know how to use any of the techniques required.
I suggest starting out with tutorials on how to do different things with your guitar and then use tabs and stuff to learn other people’s music, so that you become familiar with how to apply the techniques.
Try song writing when you are a bit more advanced.

I’m a beginner and I’m not good at all with chords.
