How can i learn to play guitar?

I want to start to learn guitar for a second hobby because i love to listen to music. Is there a website online that is free or any free tutorials online? I have been thinking about this for a few days and i really want to start useing a guitar.

I’ve learned how to play guitar just by song choice. I use ultimate guitar tabs online because it’s free and easy. YouTube guitar tutorials are also very helpful! You could also look at local music shops for lessons.

Can I begin to learn fingerpicking a guitar without any previous guitar knowledge?

I just started learning how to play guitar a couple days ago, and I was just curious as to if you must learn guitar strumming before you consider picking, as I’ve heard it’s a real bitch to learn. This true?

Think almost being a banjo player and you’ve got much of it down.

That is what has developed many a finger style player and given the guitar such versatility and expression. Start with forefinger and thumb to draw the strings towards you, add the middle and next think of each as an individual ‘pick’ to learn to get a pattern.

Pattern meaning, each finger follows the other in line, dedicated to the same string to same finger. Then comes tempo or sequence of which the speed and even ‘cross-picking’ (alternating) within the pattern is learned. All according to the piece of music or ’score’ melody is to be presented.

(The thumb usually carries (alternates) the two bass strings during such rhythmic play. And, use the pinky for upper register accents and additional chord pattern notation with the left hand.)

You can get books on the techniques as well as DVDs that can provide performers and their particular styles and how it is done. All this short of serious instruction from a teacher.

Chet Atkins learned by listening to Merle Travis on the radio, Tommy Emmanuel learned from Chet Atkins recordings, Doyle Dykes learned more when playing back up with Chet Atkins.

Listen to the music and learn more. I listened to Chet Atkins and Peter*, Paul and Mary records too.

I’m planning to learn guitar at home, since i’m in highschool now and I have basketball lessons, swimming lessons and others and I don’t have that much time to have guitar lessons.
If I was to learn at home, what would i need? I want to learn the electric guitar btw.
If I need books, am I looking for any books in particular? Please help me

Learning Guitar and Violin at the same time? It just won’t work out very well. There is so much to learn in each instrument that even a whole lifetime would be not enough to master it. So my suggestion is to learn any one instrument and try mastering it. For women Violin is the best choice.

BTW you can learn both these instruments online these days, no need to depend on a personal tutor.

how hard is it to learn guitar if you already have experience with other musical instruments?

i play clarinet and bass clarinet so i would say my hands are already flexible and nimble. would this help me learn guitar at a quicker pace? is it hard to learn as a second instrument?
also how much should i pay for a good beginner acoustic guitar? please give me any other tips you can offer.

You will have an advantage, but it won’t be freakishly easy, either. I learned to play the guitar after the piano, and while it was easier for me than my non-instrumental friends, it’s still a challenge, simply because you have to move your fingers not only up and down the neck but onto all six different strings as well. Of course with practice, as you already know, you’ll get it quickly.

I bought my first for less than a hundred.
Get a self-teaching book and go from there. Good luck!

I want to learn guitar as I have an acoustic one that has been under my bed fir god only knows how many years. But I want to learn! It may just be a phase and I may grow out of it, but is there anyway I can learn without having to pay for lessons?

There are LOADS of guitar players at my school but I feel a but gay asking them if they could teach me :/

Is it possible to learn how to play keyboards from learning guitar?

So right now I’m learning to play guitar, and in my class we’re learning how to read music.
And, which, is apparently universal.
So learning notes and the like, would it be relatively easy to play on a keyboard/synth/piano?
Or would I have to also take piano to learn it?

Well, as a piano player I find it very easy to pick up a guitar and figure out a chord, because it’s set up exactly the same way as a piano, just with strings and different to physically play. Assuming you know all of the notes on the guitar, take the E string for example. You know open is E, then the first fret is F, then F#, G, G#, A etc. etc., the piano is set up the same way. The black keys are the sharps and flats, and the notes in a chord are the same. The E chord has the notes E, G# and B both on guitar and on piano. It’s played differently because you’re probably playing the chord with more than three strings, but the concept is the same. I don’t know if this helps much, or if it even makes much sense coming from guitar to piano, because I figured it out vice versa. And also, yes reading music is the same. You just have to know all of the notes, and you probably would want to learn your scales, also. There are a lot of youtube tutorials for that type of thing. Good luck to you.
