I learn guitar by:
1.) Download guitar tab from internet
2.) Practice the song
3.) Jam with friends
Do you think this method can help me develop my guitar skill?
Btw, I really don’t understand the music terms such as minor, major, flat, sharp, 5th, 6th, chords progressions, root chords and etc..
4. Learn "the music terms such as minor, major, flat, sharp, 5th, 6th, chords progressions, root chords and etc.."
I learned the way you did, but it only takes you so far. It will help you develop your own sound, but you better start learning your scales, chords and other basic theory if you really want to take guitar seriously.
5. Immerse yourself in different styles of music, especially if you’re not a fan of it. Listening to music you don’t normally listen to is a good thing that all musicians should do. You have to find the beauty in music, any style of music. For example, I don’t like Country or Jazz or blues that much, but I found musicians like Johnny Cash, Miles Davis and SRV that I do end up liking, and they have influenced my style and playing; helping me become a better all around musician.

I’m thinking of taking up another instrument. I’ve been playing music for about 10 years so Im experienced and I already know how to read notes/chords etc etc..
Thing is, I want to start learning guitar but I dont know where to start. In the end I want to be able to play by tabs and chords, and be able to play acoustic and electric.
I’m going to teach myself and I have a few friends who are experienced guitar players so I can get help from them.
I havn’t got the guitar yet but I’m getting that soon. I just need to know whether I should start with acoustic or electric and learn by chords or tabs first? I’ve had a little experience with guitars and I know 4 easy chords haha, of course I’ll learn more once I get a guitar though.
Also, I want to be able to play bass. So when should I start learning bass? Should I learn it while I’m learning guitar or after?
The style of music I will be playing is more rock and possibly some pop music. Anyone help??
In terms of what to start on, it really is just what you want to play. Most traditionalists will tell you to start on acoustic, but if you will play electric more often start on electric, and vice versa.
The fact you have been playing music for a long time will help. You will pick it up quicker. You can either get a good self teaching book, or look up tabs on the net. Your sound musical knowledge will have you in good stead.
Bass is something that you can learn while learning guitar, as the two compliment each other, but be careful not to treat it as a low guitar. It has it’s own place and style, its often hard for guitarists to initially distinguish this. There is no reason you can’t learn both at the same time, but try to treat them as seperate entities, rather than a bass just being a low guitar.
Hope this has helped.

I have always wanted to learn guitar, so my girlfriend is buying me one for Christmas. All I have to do is pick it out. Her and I are not sure which is the best to learn on, she thinks electric and I have heard acoustic. Any suggestions?
My preference in music is really rock. I love classic rock like the Stones and Aerosmith. Modern Rock I like 3 Doors Down and music like that. I have always loved acoustic tracks though.
Electric’s easier on the fingers, but what it comes down to is this.
What is your preference? Which type of guitar shows up in a majority of the music you listen to? Because, when it comes to the basics, electric and acoustic are essentially the same thing. It’s not until you’ve become more familiar with the instrument that the subtleties of each really show.
