How do you set up a Guitar effects pedal?

26th October

I’m thinking of buying this guitar effects pedal http://www.guitarcenter.com/DigiTech-RP90-Guitar-Multi-Effects-Pedal-104653852-i1375342.gc
and I have never used a guitar effects pedal before and I wanted to know how to set it up because I don’t want to buy it and find out that my amp cant use it or something like that.

All amps can use a pedal, and if u buy it don’t forget another cord (just like the one for plugging the guitar to the amp.) All you do is plug one cable from the amp to the jack labeled LEFT of the effect and the other cable from the guitar to the jack labeled INPUT. The button is only for switching between whether you’re going to plug into a mixer or amp and seeing as you’re a beginner, you should leave it out rather than in, unless you are connecting it to a mixer, which I doubt. Everything about how to use it will probably be included in the instructions. The other two jacks are for headphones and an alternate power source, which may or may not be included. If not, it will require batteries.

Best guitar set up?

26th October

I have an ESP EC-50 and I play metal but I like to switch it up with some melodic music as well. I was wondering what the best set up would be as far as what pick ups i should put in my guitar and where i should put them (ie. bridge or neck). I am trying to get the best possible tone for my guitar.

Speaking from over 25 years of guitar experience, I suggest high output humbuckers for metal tones. For all around crunch and distortion definition on my opinion nothing comes at par with an active set of EMG 81 (bridge) and EMG 85 (neck). Just ask Metallica, Atreyu, As I Lay Dying, Nick Catanese (Black Label Society), Chimaira, Kriss Norris (Darkest Hour), Deftones, Killswitch Engage, Slipknot, Slayer, Shadows Fall and legions more. Though you will need to have these active pickups this professionally installed since it will require routing.

For ease of installation and versatility, I would however recommend DiMarzio Evolution or Breed neck and bridge pair used by guitar god Steve Vai. Herman Li, Sam Totman (Dragon Force), Alex Skolnick, also use Evolution.

Alternatively you can also use Seymour Duncan JB (bridge)and Jazz (neck), Livewire Metal (bridge). Alex Auburn (Cryptopsy), Lord Ahriman (Dark Funeral), Andreas Kisser & Derrick Green (Sepultura), Mark Morton (Lamb of God), Johnny Stoj (Pegazus), Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) are known users.

All pickups mentioned above are all considered professional pieces of guitar hardware, therefore you really can’t go wrong choosing any one of these. Now what exactly is the best, actually depends on who you ask and the user’s own personal preference.

How do you like my Guitar Setup?

26th October

Epiphone Les Paul Standard – replaced humbuckers with Seymour Duncan jazz in neck and burstbucker pro in bridge. D’Addario .11’s and a roland cube-30x.

Classy.. Epiphones are pretty much just as good as regular gibsons and half the price.. and you cant go wrong with D’Addario’s

What would be the easiest way to learn guitar?

26th October

I am a college student who is now attending for his first year, so lessons probably aren’t going to be the way to go with time problems, but what are some suggestions on books or websites that would be the easiest way to learn to play guitar. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

www.ultimate-guitar.com is full of video or written lessons in specific categories so you can sort of pick what you want to learn and go from there. I suggest starting with a few scales and chords.

How hard is it to learn how to play guitar?

26th October

Okay lately I have been more and more into acoustic music and I really like the way the guitar sounds. I bought a learning guitar, not like one of those expensive ones. I know that learning guitar is not easy or fast but can anyone help me in telling me how long it would take to learn how to play. I’m just talking about at-home playing, nothing fancy. Oh and I also think of learning from a professional.

Thanks

Depends on the teacher and how motivated you are to learn and practice. Set goals with the teacher and tell him or her what you want to accomplish. Self taught will frustrate you and you may get some bad habits that will be harder to correct once you start playing more, unless of course you are a super genius. Make it fun and treat it like art.
